While her work as an actress would precede and have greater longevity than her career as a vocalist, it wasn't until she released her debut album Julie Is Her Name, that London truly became a household name. No one could have imagined the album's success considering that it was the first LP of a still relatively unknown singer, and only featured guitar and bass accompaniment (even if the guitar player was such an important jazz star as Barney Kessel).
